About the Program
The Mason Police Citizen’s Academy is a free program designed for George Mason faculty, staff, and students and local community members who are interested in learning more about law enforcement and the services Mason Police provide to the community. The program curriculum provides educational opportunities to foster understanding and communication between the community and the police department.
The program’s themes are embedded in the context of a policing in a higher education environment and the unique responsibilities and skillsets required of campus police (building community partnerships, mental health interventions, threat assessment, active threat preparedness and training, etc.). Through an immersive, multi-week experience, participants are given an opportunity to increase their understanding of how police officers are trained and to experience the working environment of a police officer.
